MARINE MOTORBOAT HELMSMAN

The course for the maritime motorboat helmsman license includes an intensive three-day theoretical and practical training, culminating in a state examination. During the training, knowledge and skills are imparted to prepare for independent navigation of a motor yacht in marine waters. Additionally, the trainee receives materials before the start of the training aimed at systematizing knowledge, so that during the classes, emphasis can be placed on the most significant practical issues and more challenging elements.

Organizational information

  • the training lasts from Thursday at 2:00 PM to Saturday at 5:00 PM;

  • the theoretical training is conducted in a lecture hall;

  • the practical training takes place in the port area of Puck on a motor yacht Merry Fisher 635with a stationary engine YANMAR 88HP;

  • immediately after the training, an exam is conducted;

Fees

  • booking fee: 100% of the course price

  • exam fee: 350 PLN;

For students and pupils under 26 years old, a 50% discount on the exam fee and certificate issuance.

Exam - motorboat captain at sea

  • knowledge test, navigation task, and maneuvering;

  • a motorboat captain's license can be obtained by a person who is at least 18 years old, has 200 hours of sea experience in at least two sea voyages confirmed by trip reports, and has passed the required knowledge and skills exam.

Licenses - sea motorboat captain

  • operating motor yachts on inland waters;

  • operating motor yachts with a hull length of up to 18m on sea waters.

Practical training - maritime motorboat helmsman

  • maneuvering the motor yacht, departure/arrival to the dock, straight course and circling, "man overboard" alarm, anchoring and mooring;

  • leading the crew and working as a crew member;

  • deckhand tasks.

Theoretical training - marine motorboat helmsman

  • construction of the yacht and installations, equipment of the marine yacht

  • engines and drive systems - principles of operation and maintenance

  • aboutnavigational marking, navigational aids, navigational preparation for the voyage, navigational instruments, dead reckoning navigation and elements of terrestrial navigation

  • knowledge of meteorology, meteorological reports, navigational instruments

  • signaling and communication, including communication in emergencies

  • voyage planning, preparation of the yacht and crew

  • marine rescue, safety principles, first aid, ways to call for help, preparation for storms

  • basic regulations on inland and marine waterways
